“What makes me excited to come to work each day is working with the intake specialists on their cases and helping them learn what to look for in fraud cases. I love the investigative aspect of my job and digging deep to find the answers.” – Lisa Fields, Fraud Subject Matter Expert at FORWARD

Lisa is a Fraud Subject Matter Expert at FORWARD and works across all FORWARD-administered programs to identify and prevent cases of fraud.

What did you do before working at FORWARD?

Before working at FORWARD, I worked as a Public Benefits Specialist helping low-income, working families acquire childcare.

What are your responsibilities?

As a Fraud Specialist, I review cases for potential fraud and assist intake specialists in determining if documents are fraudulent. I guide intake specialists through our fraud prevention process and if an application is found to be fraudulent, I will deny the application and attend any grievance hearings requested by applicants. Since I work on fraud cases across many programs, I am able to identify trends with fraud across the various programs we work on nationwide and bring that information back to my team so that we can leverage this knowledge to prevent future fraudulent activity.

What challenges do you face in your work?

In many cases of potential fraud, we will request additional information from the applicants, who are often reluctant to submit more information. Identifying fraud also requires a lot of focus and attention to detail. With advances in technology, it is becoming easier to forge documents. Therefore, we take a multi-step review process to ensure we don’t let the bad guys slip through.

What makes you excited to come to work each day?

What makes me excited to come to work each day is working for a company that makes sure the employees feel valued, we are not just a number at FORWARD. The management team is amazing and is always willing to help if needed and very understanding of the work/life balance. Another thing that makes me excited to come to work each day is working with the intake specialists on their cases and helping them learn what to look for in fraud cases. I love the investigative aspect of my job and digging deep to find the answers.
