What is the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Program?

The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program is a new program created by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The CPRG will provide $5 billion in funding to support projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollutants. The CPRG will be implemented through two grant competitions:

Planning Grants:

This competition will provide $250 million in funding to support states, local governments, tribes, and territories in developing plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollutants.

Implementation Grants:

This competition will provide $4.65 billion in funding to support the implementation of plans that have been developed through the Planning Grants competition.

The CPRG is a significant investment in the fight against climate change. The program will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and create jobs.

The CPRG is also a major step forward in the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to environmental justice. The program will help to ensure that all communities benefit from the transition to a clean energy economy.

Here are some of the key benefits of the CPRG:

  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions: The CPRG will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a major contributor to climate change.
Improves air quality: The CPRG will help to improve air quality, which can improve public health and reduce the number of premature deaths.
  • Creates jobs: The CPRG will create jobs in the clean energy sector, which is a growing industry.

Advances environmental justice: The CPRG will help to ensure that all communities benefit from the transition to a clean energy economy.

Here are some examples of projects that may be eligible for funding from the CPRG:

  • Investments in energy efficiency: This could include weatherizing homes and businesses, upgrading lighting, and installing solar panels.
  • Investments in renewable energy: This could include building solar and wind farms, installing rooftop solar panels, and supporting the development of new renewable energy technologies.
  • Investments in public transportation: This could include expanding bus and train service, improving bike lanes and sidewalks, and creating more walkable communities.
  • Investments in waste reduction and recycling: This could include promoting composting, recycling, and reducing waste sent to landfills.
  • Investments in education and outreach: This could include developing educational materials about climate change, training community leaders, and holding public events.

The CPRG is a flexible program that can support a wide range of projects. If you have an idea for a project that could reduce greenhouse gas emissions or improve air quality, please consider applying for funding from the CPRG.
